12 Basic Steps to Publishing your First Podcast Episode

  • Get some Microphones and an Audio Recorder
  • Figure out what You want to Talk About
  • Find a Podcast Host
  • Make the cover art for your show
  • Record an Episode
  • Edit the Episode
  • Upload the edited episode to the Podcast Host
  • Submit your RSS Feed (Real Simple Syndications) to Apple Podcasts
  • Create the Show Notes for the Episode

Stuff to Think About Before You Start

  • This is not to discourage but there is nothing easy about podcasting.
  • Even the most basic of podcast take a lot of work especially if you don’t have a team to assist.
  • Why do you want to do this? Do you really want to do this?
  • Can you commit to about 2 Years? Your 1st real day of podcasting starts after 5 years. If you’re really looking for show notoriety.
  • Who is your audience?
  • What is your purpose?
  • What do you want your impact to be?
  • Why should people listen to your show?
  • Are you going solo, co-costed, round table?
  • Do you have time for this?
  • Are you good at problem solving?
  • Business or Pleasure?
  • Where will you record?
  • Do you have the personality for it?
  • Know that you’re competing against big money and big media
  • What will you talk about?
  • How long will each episode be?
  • Will it just be you?
  • Will you being interviewing people?
  • Will you have a co-host or round table style? Frequency: Will it come out, once week, twice a week, daily?
  • Do you have audio recording experience?
  • Do you know how to edit?
  • Will your show be indoors or outdoors?
  • Do you have have a extra $150 (Approx.) a month for hosting & software?
  • Do you know photoshop or graphics software?
  • Can you write?
  • Are you web savvy? Build a site? Customize a site? Update a site?
  • Are you up for being ignored a lot? Are you easily discouraged?
  • Do you have a space to record? Is it quiet?
  • Do you have decent photography skills? IG, Facebook, Twitter, & Facebook?
  • What is your personal life like?
  • Will you cuss?
  • Will this be in person or over Skype?

  • Don’t Look at the Stat in the Beginning
  • When you launch, have 10 completed episodes. 4 to publish and 6 in the reserve
  • Always have a reserve of shows, as many as earthly possible. even if you just record them and edit them latter
  • Be Consistent, Oh my God Be Consistent (The goal is to become a ritual to your audience, like every Tuesday I listen to NYS)
  • Try to record as many episodes as possible because LIFE
  • Don’t Take it Personal
  • Talk to your audience
  • Set It and Forget
  • Be yourself
  • Stay focused, you will want to quit at some point DON’T GIVE UP
  • Be early
  • Eat
  • Hygiene (Nose Hairs, Clothing, Breath)
  • Don’t Stop Experimenting: Record outside, the homeless, sounds of New York, switch up your recording style
  • Rest
  • Be present
  • Do your research
