
New York Said, a multidisciplinary project with a mission to document and preserve the “the writing on the wall” hidden in plain sight throughout the five boroughs.
Over the last 10+ years, Amon Focus has photographed over 2,500 statements written on every surface imaginable in his ongoing photo series titled, New York Said.
In addition to this photo series, Amon created the New York Said podcast. As of this writing, the podcast has recorded over 200 long-form conversations of native and notable New Yorkers. Amon has has interviewed the likes of American cartoonist, Bob Mankoff of Esquire, Pulitzer Prize-winning art critic, Jerry Saltz, The International Center of Photography’s Curator-at-Large, Isolde Brielmaier, famed photographer, Jay Maisel, documentary and street style photographer, Jamel Shabazz, and visual artist Shantell Martin.
Amon’s photography and film projects have been featured in multiple venues throughout New York City. Project highlights include an archival screening of his film: The Last Interview of Arturo Vega at the Howl! Happening Gallery, shooting for New York Fashion Week and Visual Voices, a special exhibition of photographs and interactive immersion.
Amon’s creative partnerships include working with Kimpton Ink48 Boutique Hotel in Hell’s Kitchen, Rene Mantilla Chapeau of Harlem and the COARSE Restaurant Group of the Meatpacking District. Often tapped to share his insights and experiences with audiences throughout New York, Amon has spoken at NYU, Hetrick-Martin Institute, Southeast Queens Camera Club, Full Sail University and the New York Film Academy.
When Amon is not working on New York Said, he works as a private contractor for destination marketing organizations throughout the country. Amon has worked as a Creative Producer and Camera Operator on hundreds of tourism productions with Miles Partnership, Travel Oregon, Louisiana Travel, Kentucky Tourism, Visit Florida and San Francisco Travel to name a few.
